Remove Ubuntu GDM login sound
Everytime I restart my laptop or logout of X, I get to GDM.
So far so good, but, it scares the HELL out of me! That ANNOYING, VERY LOUD drum sound! ARG!
The developers made it harder and harder to remove this sound. In earlier releases of Ubuntu it was
enough to go to System->Preferences->Sound and disable the 'Login' field.
Not anymore. Well, here is how to do it:
Press ALT+F2, then type 'gksu gconf-editor'
Enter your password when asked
Browse to /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/sound/
Unselect the active checkbox.
Profit!
