About

My name is Michiel van Baak, although I tried to get rid of it my nickname is still "mafkees". One day, March 16th 1979 my life story started, in a Dutch place called Alphen aan den Rijn. Currently I'm living in the very small village Lunteren, almost in the centre of The Netherlands. Being married to Nancy, I can call myself a happy camper.

Since 2000 I'm working for a small sized hosting/webdevelopment company called Terrazur My daily task there is to keep all the machines up and running and being the core developer of the product Covide To see my whole lifecycle in short, take a look at my Curriculum Vitae in pdf or odt.

I started being interested in computers when my dad bought an awesome Comodore 64 with floppy drive and all. But the real fun started when the Comodore had to leave for the Brand New, Awesome, Superleet 386. With a whopping 1 MB RAM and 40 MB harddisk, we had a monster sitting on the desk! This machine also got me started with QuickBasic. Later, when going to school in Utrecht (HBO IT) I learned that there was more then just windows. A new world opened in front of me as I started to understand Linux. Robert van der Meulen gave me the Debian cd's and "ordered" me to get rid of the windows 95 before I was allowed to place my own machine in the campus network. Since then I am using Debian GNU/Linux as my main desktop OS. Since 2000 I am also running OpenBSD . I manage my own home firewall with it and my lappy is liking the OS too.

I'm also running some Asterisk boxes. A couple at work and 2 here at home. All my phonenumbers are ported to VoIP and my asterisk/cisco setup is providing me with a phone setup.

My GnuPG key is here
