Remove Ubuntu GDM login sound (06-03-2010 15:45)

Everytime I restart my laptop or logout of X, I get to GDM.
So far so good, but, it scares the HELL out of me! That ANNOYING, VERY LOUD drum sound! ARG!

The developers made it harder and harder to remove this sound. In earlier releases of Ubuntu it was
enough to go to System->Preferences->Sound and disable the 'Login' field.
Not anymore. Well, here is how to do it:

Press ALT+F2, then type 'gksu gconf-editor'
Enter your password when asked
Browse to /apps/gdm/simple-greeter/settings-manager-plugins/sound/
Unselect the active checkbox.
Profit!

e164.org trouble (18-04-2009 18:00)

e164.org is having a lot of trouble lately.
First there was a trouble with the authentication calls that had no audio.
Today they managed to mess up their DNS

I have an account with them and publish my contact information etc in their DNS.
In their backend I entered 1 address record and they decided to reply with a bunch of the same records with my address information.
That means my 'contact' block on the right was really a mess. (Info on how to do it is here)

So I decided to fix it the 'ugly' way by adding some double record detection in my php script.

You can download the latest version of my php script here.

Asterisk IAX2 keys in Debian (15-05-2008 18:45)

Yesterday the Debian team issued a security advisatory about OpenSSL.
They made a mistake in 2006 that made the PRNG predictable. Because of this, all keys generated using this OpenSSL library have to be considered compromised.
This means that your asterisk IAX2 keys should be considered compromised as well.

I advise you to regenerate them after installing the security update.

Access to Digium SVN (02-02-2008 20:00)

Two days ago I was talking on #asterisk-dev with russellb and Corydon about a task in Asterisk that was waiting for some coders. I started work on this issue but had to redo the patches 3 times because of changes in asterisk that would conflict with the work I had done.
To make life a bit easier I suggested some developer start a branch so we can stay up-to-date with the core development and it would also make it easier to merge the branch back once all the work was done.

To my big suprise, they told me they added me to the access list of the Digium subversion server and that I could do all this myself from now on!

This is a big honor because there are only like 30 other developers outside Digium that have access to this subversion machine, and most have contributed a lot more and a lot more dificult code. Nice detail is that I'm the only one from The Netherlands that has access now :)

My First Blogpost (02-02-2008 18:00)

Today I decided to get myself a blog.
It seems odd that the author of MvBlog does not use MvBlog for his own blog, but I wanted to see if it can be done in Covide CMS. Turns out it's not that much work and it also made me find some bugs in the template module that are now fixed.

I'll mostly use this blog to post some small tips that dont deserve a full page under documentation and some other random things.
Dont expect this blog to be very active ;)
